Getting a Walking or Running Shoe

Two things I learned the hard way on getting a walking or running shoe.

1. Not all shoes size are equal. Hence, certain company try to solve this using through a conversion API by shoefitr.com to help merchant to let customer find the right size.

2. Minimalist or zero-drop or barefoot shoes have very short life span. How short ? Average around 250 - 300 miles or 402 - 480 km before the outsole wears out. Think twice before you fork out USD 100+ or MYR 300+ to buy them.

No Sound Card Detected (Dummy Output) in Ubuntu 13.04

Boot up my machine upon arriving home. No sound while playing YouTube. Suspected the Shockwave plugin was corrupted. Upgraded Google Chrome to the latest version. Still no sound, try playing local MP3 file, no sound as well. Check the sound settings, showed Dummy Output. It seemed no sound card was detected. Some googling and these are the solutions.

1. Uninstall, purged all configuration files, reinstall, and lastly reboot. [1]
$ sudo apt-get remove --purge alsa-base
$ sudo apt-get remove --purge pulseaudio
$ sudo apt-get install alsa-base
$ sudo apt-get install pulseaudio
$ sudo reboot

2. Reinstall the applet indicator.
$ sudo apt-get install indicator-sound
$ sudo killall unity-panel-service

Write Every Day
